Bank of Ireland, Dublin and Westport, Eighth Issue 1838-1842, 7 may 1838, A/G 51541, signature of A. Brett, Blake BA.31, Pick A.14.  Worn left edge, a few small tears, spots and small patches of light foxing, otherwise Fine.  Graded PMG Fine 12.  The only early Hibernias and Medusa Heads Issue from Westport, as listed by Blake.  Very Rare.

Until about 1855 notes could be issued solely at Dublin, or alternatively at Dublin with one or more other branches.  This note is part of the new series issued from 1838, depicting 75 mm. high statues of Hibernia at left and right, and a row of 21 classical heads of Medusa across the top.  The main elements of this design continued to be used by the Bank of Ireland until the late 20th century.
